What are cross exams for?
- Looking for flaws in the other teams reasoning
- Showing you are credible to the judge
- Giving your partner time to write their rebuttals
- Setting up for the next speak
Tips
- Don’t nit pik, focus on more generally important questions
- Be assertive, but calm and collected. Aggression makes you look worse, not better.
- Answer and ask questions that are meant to be heard judge, you’re still trying to convince the judge
- Keep questions argumentative, short, and specific, don’t ramble
- Don’t ask open ended questions, or else you’ll get a vague answer
- Don’t be afraid to spend a couple follow up questions to clarify things
- Make sure you’re asking a question instead of making a statements
